Nigerians are sexually active especially because of this “money for sex” routine otherwise known as prostitution which is very much common in the country.
There are numerous sexually transmitted diseases but we will focus on four for now.
This is one common sexually transmitted diseases that is caused by both oral and anal sex.
Syphilis has reportedly grown to 134% in men, in Nigeria. This contagious disease is particularly dangerous as it was discovered that it has the ability to cause madness, due to brain damage .
Bacteria such as Treponema pallidum is responsible for the cause.
2. Gonorrhea: this is a very painful disease, it can be felt especially when the individual wants to urinate.
Nigeria is among the countries that are seriously suffering from this illness..
Lagos was pointed out by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the highest carrier of the disease, in the world, in 1963.
Gonorrhea causes major infertility problems in both men and women.
Gonorrhea prevalence varies from 44.4% in Zaria to 80% in Ibadan.
This is the most commonly known sexual transmitted diseases in Nigeria.
According to research it was discovered that about 4.5m people in Nigeria are living with the disease.
And the ever increasing rate of prostitution has been a huge factor in helping to promote the sickness.
3.1% of the Adults aged 15_49 are suffering from Hiv/aids
The cure for aids have not yet been discovered.
Kaduna, Rivers and Taraba states are said to have the highest number of hiv/aids sufferers. While Ekiti , Bauchi and Zamfara states records the lowest rates in the country.
4. Trichomonasis: this disease is caused by one celled protozoan organism which is passed on to the oother Individual during sexual intercourse.
Many has the disease without knowing because it’s said to have no symptoms
The national average for trichomoniasis is 9.8% .
